How To Prevent Damaging Automobile Modification
Automobile Modification: Car manufacturers design vehicles with some generic settings and features to better the user experience of car owners worldwide.
In Nigeria, some mechanics sometimes advise car owners to make changes that will alter these settings and features. Some of the common reasons for this are inexperience or insufficient knowledge about the features, and to make the car owner a returning customer because of the reoccurring issues that the vehicle will have.
Here are some of the most popular damaging automobile modification that you should avoid:
-
Engine Thermostat Removal
A vehicle’s engine thermostat is a part that is between the engine and the radiator. It ensures that the engine runs at the appropriate temperature, circulating the coolant when the engine starts to heat up.
When the engine thermostat is removed, the engine develops temperature-related issues, shortening its life span.
-
Wrong Radiator Cooling Fan Connection
The radiator cooling fan works with the thermostat to regulate a vehicle’s temperature. It assists with cooling the engine when it has hit a very high temperature.
Mechanics alter the function of the radiator cooling fan by connecting it directly to the car so whenever the car comes on, the radiator cooling fan comes on by default.
In the long run, this modification renders the cooling system useless.
-
Gearbox Swap
Also called transmission, a gearbox is a device that is responsible for speed changes in automobiles. It is a peculiar part of vehicles, therefore, the gearbox of two different cars cannot be used for one another.
If the gearbox of a car spoils, the car owner has to buy a new one that is made specifically for that vehicle. In a bid to save cost, some mechanics recommend replacing the bad gearbox with one from another car.
The hazardous problems that will arise from doing this are more dangerous and expensive than a brand-new gearbox so don’t do it.
-
Model Upgrades
Buying a 2010 Toyota car and being encouraged to ”upgrade” it to a 2020 Toyota car is very common in Nigeria. Model upgrades that are not done by the initial manufacturer of the vehicle tamper with the car’s structural integrity and cause endless issues.
