How to maintain your tyres life
Tyres are responsible for transferring pressure from the wheels to the ground for seamless movement. Tyres are exposed to roads with different textures and objects, making them the most vulnerable part of any vehicle.
With the surge in the price of tires and the rise in the number of roads with large potholes/sharp objects, more vehicle owners are forced to pay close attention to their tyres now.
These five maintenance procedures will prevent sudden issues with your tires and make them last long:
-
Dodge potholes
Considering the poor state of many roads in Lagos, avoiding potholes can seem impossible. However, you have to try nonetheless. Driving steadily is the best technique because it will allow you to see potholes ahead of time and maneuver them carefully. Fast driving on a pothole-filled road puts your tires at risk of bursting.
-
Aligning or Balancing Tyres
Tyre balancing refers to the correction of the unequal weight of the tires. Tyre aligning is the adjustment of a vehicle’s suspension, the system that links the car to the tyres. The aligning and balancing tyres make for a smoother driving experience. Have your mechanic perform these two procedures bi-monthly.
-
Do daily inspections
One of your tyres can get punctured by a nail or broken bottle and you won’t know. The dent could go undetected for days until it causes final damage to the tyre. Take time out to inspect your tyres at the end of every day so you can detect any dents and fix them quickly.
-
Tyre Rotation
Tire rotation refers to the seasonal switching of a vehicle’s tyres. Do it as frequently as the manufacturer recommends. Tyre rotation is a procedure that stretches the lifespan of vehicle tyres because it allows you to spot any damage in time. Ask your mechanic to do a tire rotation on your vehicle at least thrice a year.
-
Have tyre tools
Always keep tyre tools such as a spanner, jack, razor blade, and more, in your vehicle. Having these tools ensure that you can fix your tyre in case of abrupt damage to your vehicle’s tyre.
